English: This lucky girl here is lucky because she has a really great boyfriend. Listen to this – I came home after a 9,5 hour work day and went straight to the couch. My boyfriend comes to me and he says “I think I might have booked a two week vacation to the Dominican Republic and we are leaving in two weeks”. Me, I was speechless and everything I managed to say was “what?!”. Yeah, so long story short, we are traveling overseas and we are going to the Dominican Republic, and I am obviously so excited! We have a direct flight from Frankfurt, which I am so happy for, we just have to get to Frankfurt from Berlin. I looked it up online, and it seems like there are fairly cheap train tickets, and it takes around four hours. Then the flight is nine hours, and then we will arrive in paradise! I’ve been to Cuba and Cayman Islands last year, also with my boyfriend, but it is both our first time to visit the Dominican Republic. If any of you have been there and have tips and advice, please stand forward! 😉 I would love to get recommendations and tips from you! The pictures in this post are from the last time I traveled overseas – in December/January when I went to Thailand with my lovely family <3

Three new places to try in Berlin this Spring

Men, frygt ej kære venner!

English: Berlin is constantly evolving, and every week something new pops up. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up with the fast pace, but fear not, dear friends! I have collected three places you have to try asap. They include a delicious popsicle booth, a coffee place, and a place that does it all. See here for three new places to try in Berlin this Spring, and for more places to try, read a recent post I did about five restaurants to try in Berlin this spring.

Fenster Coffee Berlin

English: You might ask yourself – isn’t there enough hip cafes serving coffee in the city of Berlin, and I say, can there every be enough? The guy from the Netherlands behind recently opened Fenster Coffee in Kreuzberg agreed with me, so he opened Fenster Coffee in order to serve more coffee thirsty guests in the area of Schlesi. Fenster Coffee has a small selection – they basically serve coffee and two/three different kinds of cake, which is enough for me. In addition to the coffee and cake, Fenster Coffee invites to Sunday brunch once in a while, so follow their Facebook to see when it is brunch time!
 California Pops Berlin

English: Right next to Fenster Coffee, one will find heaven for ice cream lovers. Handmade, homemade, healthy and organic ice cream popsicles. These ice creams will give you a smile on your face with their cute and colorful looks, and they taste delicious! The tastes vary, but in the selection there are always sorbets (fruit popsicles) or cream ice cream with variants like white chocolate or cookie. Yummy! California Pops is open in the summer months.

Candy on Bone Berlin

Candy on Bone – Planufer 92b, Kreuzberg

English: Imagine a deli, a fancy supermarket, a patisserie and a café all in one, and you have Candy on Bone. With an amazing location right on the river in Kreuzberg, Candy on Bone is a perfect spot to get coffee and cake from the little, cute patisserie or even lunch from the delicious deli serving healthy and experimental salads and other daily dishes. In the other side of the store, you will find a mini supermarket with carefully curated things such as organic popcorn, bread, sauces, alcohol in fancy bottles, snacks and chocolate in cool wrapping. A real feinschmecker store, and a place where you could easily go broke after shopping at!

Stay in Hamburg: 25hours Hotel Altes Hafenamt

ENGLISH: Ever dreamt about staying a night in an former harbour office now turned in to one of the most hippest hotels in the center of Hamburg? I have, and last week in Hamburg I was so lucky to be invited to spend a night at the recently opened 25hours hotel Altes Hafenamt located in the HafenCity district of Hamburg. The hotel is brand new, five weeks old to be exact, but it was already perfectly decorated and everything on point.

The hotel is fairly small, it holds 49 rooms, but this is part of the charm. The hotel offers four different type of rooms, and I stayed in the xl-room, and it was amazing. I seriously wish that I could have taken most of the interior and style out of the room and brought it back home to my own apartment. There was an amazing, big bed, which is key for a good nights sleep when traveling. Then there was a cool book-shelve system, a big TV, a nice chill out “lounge” and, last but not least, great and spacious bathroom. My boyfriend and I loved the room so much that we decided to stay in a whole night and only went out to get dinner to come back right after. Yep, it was a really good bed 😉

After a good nights sleep, it was time for breakfast, and you guys know me. I love food! I am the kind of person that literally lives to eat and looks forward to the next meal as soon as I finish another. And, the breakfast buffet at 25hours Hotel Altes Hafenamt, which for the record, also has a Neni Restaurant as in Berlin, fully lived up to my expectations. This buffet held everything one could wish for – from breakfast classics such as scramble eggs, bacon and toast, to more Mediterranean inspired foods like hummus, tzatziki and olives, and not to forget the sweet stuff. There was a yogurt bar where one could mix their own breakfast bowl with different granolas, fruits and nuts. Yummy!

After breakfast and a bit more chilling in the room, as our amazing receptionist Rafael let us check out a little later than usually, it was time for us to head out and be tourists, and here we get to the best part of it all; 25hours Hotel Altes Hafenamt offers free bikes! How amazing is that? My favorite way to explore and get around cities is by biking, and how convenient is it that the hotel offers free bikes to their guests? And the bikes where beautiful! We had the best time biking around Hamburg on the hip and beautiful Pelago bikes, and we had such a great night staying at the 25hours Hotel Altes Hafenamt, whether it was the beautiful, old building, the cozy room, the breakfast, the friendly staff or the bikes that did it, or simply a mixture of them all! I would really recommend you to start planning a getaway to Hamburg asap, as it is definitely a great destination for a short weekendtrip!

Thank you, 25hours hotel Altes Hafenamt for an unforgettable experience!

Hej papa – cafe in Hamburg

HEJPAPA hamburg

English: The three days I spent in Hamburg were all about relaxing and just walking around exploring the neighborhoods of Hamburg with no set agenda or schedule. Just how I like it! On our second day in Hamburg we stumbled upon this cute, little cafe named hej papa. The cafe has a great location in the Neustadt/central area of Hamburg and right next to the big botanical garden Planten und Blomen. We headed in for a coffee break and I got very close to eating here, because the food menu sounded so delicious. hej papa creates a new menu every week with solid homely meals such as käsespätzle, roast beef or tortellini. Everything is homemade, looked and smelled delicious. As we had almost just had breakfast, I opted for a cappuccino and an orange thick yogurt with raspberry sauce and granola, and it was so good. I’d definitely come back here to try the lunch options on my next trip to Hamburg!

Sunday in Hamburg

IMG_6662

ENGLISH: A little update from me! I am enjoying Hamburg to the fullest. After the goodbye party for my best friend on Saturday night, we said our goodbyes (it was tough!) and went home to get a few hour of sleep before catching our morning train to Hamburg. Sunday morning we took the train, and one hour and forty minutes later, we arrived in Hamburg. I love train rides! They are so nice, quiet and comfortable and there is no hassle with security, check in’s and waiting in lines, you simply hop on and off. Fast and easy! We arrived at the main station in Hamburg and a six minute walk later, we found our hotel, the Henri Hotel. Again, so nice and easy! Hamburg is a fairly small city, and I love it, it makes traveling much more simple because you can just walk around without stressing out over where you are, where you have to go and what train you have to take.

Sunday we spent taking a long walk and eating Portuguese food. Then we went back to the hotel to take a nap, and later on we met with friends for drinks, dinner at a really cool restaurant, and then some more drinks. A very nice Sunday well spent in Hamburg <3
